I wasn't quite sure what to expect as Myanmar is a newer destination for tourists, a poor country and we were there just a few weeks before their election. The people are extremely friendly and welcoming and we felt very safe. We were met by our AMAWaterways Cruise Manager at the airport and transferred to the lovely and good location Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon for 2 night stay. We had a 6 hr drive to Pyay to board the AmaPura. This was a long drive, however we saw the country side and our guides provided general information about Myanmar along the way.

The ship was very clean and comfortable and the boarding process was very quick and smooth. The Sun Deck had plenty of loungers, plus a covered area from the sun. The lounge offered lots of seating for everyone. Here is where we had the cruise manager talks, pre dinner cocktails and twice local entertainers came onboard. In the evenings a piano player provided entertainment. The onboard spa offered a variety of massages at a very reasonable rate. The crew onboard seem to always have a smile, they are attentive and wanting to do whatever they can to make our trip enjoyable.

Breakfast was buffet style with an Asian offering along with a variety of pastries, fruit, eggs, etc. Lunch was buffet with a variety of salads, cheese, hot items, Asian dishes plus additional hot items from a menu.
