This was our third Celebrity cruise and first time on the Summit. We're in our early 60's and our daughter and her husband (mid-30's) joined us. We all had a great time. The embarkation out of San Juan was quick. We arrived around 11:30 and were on the ship by noon.
The Summit exterior is looking a little worn in places with some rust, but public spaces were very clean and our stateroom (balcony on deck 7) was spotless. Daughter had an ocean view on deck 3, and they were very pleased with the room. They have sailed on Royal Caribbean and remarked on how much nicer all areas were maintained. There are different lounge areas, all with a different vibe. While some were sedate, some were more lively. It could also change from night to night, so it was worth exploring. The only drawback we noticed was more smoking on this ship than we had previously experienced. (We're not smokers.) Smoking was allowed on the port sides of Deck 4, the Sunset Bar, and Deck 10. The heavy smoking at the Sunset Bar and on Deck 10 (back from the pool) permeated over to the non-smoking areas. Deck 4 was a nice place to hang out and read and had the least smokers.
We had our meals in the MDR on Select Dining and ate one night in Normandie. Food was delicious and the wait staff was great. We liked being able to eat whenever we wanted to, and had many different waitstaff. Can't say enough about them, and how great they all were about explaining and recommending meals. The Beef Cheeks are to die for--don't be scared away by the name! Normandie was very good as well. Wine service was also excellent.
