We are by no means party animals but we like an active cruise. This was our first Celebrity cruise as we normally sail on Royal Caribbean. I don't know if it was the time of year (end of October) or if Celebrity is geared toward the more mature crowd but this cruise was definitely lacking the energy that we're used to for a cruise.
There were a lot of walkers, canes and scooters and not many people our age (late 40s). The majority of the cruisers went to bed early so the late night attractions like karaoke and such were a bit low key. A lot of the bar areas were completely empty, the weight staff having nothing to do.
That said, the ship was well-maintained and very clean. The staff was nice but lacking the service that we're used to on Royal Caribbean cruise ships. The weight staff in the dining area was definitely "off". Normally the weight staff will explain the menu in detail and make recommendations. This time we got none of that. In fact we declined to eat in the dining room 4 of the 7 nights and opted for the Ocean View Cafe most of the time. I heard rumors that this was the first cruise for a lot of the dining room servers. I'm not sure if this is true or not but it would explain a lot of things.
We always opt for an inside stateroom, opting to spend the extra money on excursions since we're only in our stateroom to sleep and shower. Our stateroom was quite large for an inside room. It was very clean and well-maintained. I was really impressed with our room.
We booked a hotel room for the night before but didn't leave the hotel. It was a resort and had everything we needed. The beach was beautiful and well maintained.
