From October 18th to the 23rd I sailed on the Carnival Sunshine. I have sailed with Norwegian and Royal Caribbean in the last and this was my first time with Carnival. I sailed with my mom (in her 50s) and my sister (early 20s). I'm in my late 20s. We all had an excellent time. We did not take any excursions so I cannot review those. We spent a little bit of time in the touristy area in Freeport and in Nassau, but we mostly browsed in the shops, so I don't have a lot to say about that. Unfortunately we missed Half Moon Cay due to rough seas so we got an extra sea day instead of time on their private island. I was sad to miss it, but things like that can't be helped and the sea day was a lot of fun. We stayed in stateroom 11002 which is an interior Cloud 9 cabin with two twins (which could be pushed together into a larger bed) and a Pullman bunk to be used if you have a third guest like we did. My mom slept on the Pullman and said it was very comfortable. The normal beds were also very comfortable. The size of the room was better than I expected. All the pictures I saw online of this cabin type prior to my cruise made the room seem small and dark, but in person that is not the case. Even with the three of us it wasn't bad. The biggest issue was the ladder for the bunk getting in the way but when not in use it can be stashed under one of the beds. Because we were in a Cloud 9 stateroom we had access to the thermal suite in the Cloud 9 Spa for our first two guest. For our third guest we purchased a cruise long pass ($69 for a five night cruise) for the thermal suites so we could all go together. I loved the thermal suites. They were easily my favorite part of the cruise. There is a dry heat room, two steam rooms (one scented with eucalyptus so it's excellent for upper respiratory problems), two showers with three settings (a cool mist, cold rain, and hot), and heated loungers with an ocean view (or port view if you're in port). The ship itself is great though some people complained about the layout. I think it was a little disjointed at times, but really not that difficult to understand. I heard complaints about wet floors and strange sewage smells in the halls. I never encountered wet floors, but I did notice very faint smells on deck 7 when I wandered through there to take pictures of the difference between the Cloud 9 hallways (a little narrower and different color scheme) and the normal halls. I did the ropes course and found it to be difficult because of my height (4'11"). I had trouble reaching the upper rope that you can use to stabilize yourself. While I probably wouldn't do it again, I do reccomend it if you are taller than me haha. The water slides were a lot of fun. A word of warning though, they are faster and wilder than any other water slides I have been on before. They were awesome, but I felt very close to out of control especially on the yellow one. The food was wonderful. No complaints. I loved the burritos at the Blue Iguana Cantina. My sister was a soft serve addict for the whole trip haha. It's available 24 hours a day just outside of the buffet on deck 9. Also available 24 hours is pizza, which was delicious. We dined in the dining room three nights. We had Your Time Dining and ate in the Sunrise dining room. We had two teams of waitstaff in that time. Our head waiters were Ari and Dragan. They and their teams were both awesome. If you get them you will be in good hands. As for the shows I went to two comedy shows by the same comedian and Epic Rock by the Playlist Cast. The comedian was Roman and his adults only shows were very funny and very adult. If that's not your thing then I'd stick to the family friendly shows. I didn't go to any of them so I don't know how they are. The only production show I saw was Epic Rock and it was so good that halfway through the early show time I was telling my sister we had to come back for the second performance later that night haha. Afterwards the cast did a meet and greet and it was really fun to chat with each of them about the show and their experience working on a cruise ship. Lastly, a shout out to Jamie Dee the cruise director and her team. She is a ball of energy and good spirits. I don't know if this happens every time, but she showed up at Disney trivia and we had a fun surprise from her. Speaking of which, if you like Disney you'll enjoy Disney trivia. It's one of the highlights of my cruise.

Port Reviews

Freeport

We stayed in the gated tourist area here. We spent a while at Señor Frogs and did a little shopping in the stores. We probably spent an hour or so off the ship. The local merchants were friendly and not pushy which was nice. Not much to do right off of the ship though since it's an industrial port.

Nassau

We did a little bit of shopping on Bay Street, but only stayed out for an hour or so before heading back to the ship. There were a lot of people who asked us if we wanted a taxi but they weren't too insistent and left us alone after we told them no.
