We had cruised on Mariner of the seas in January and that was our first ever cruise. From there we were hooked and booked this cruise with Legend of the Seas. We knew it was a smaller ship, but were ok with that, but the ports that were advertised were the ones we were keen to see. I wont be picky, but suffice to say that our experience was different from our January holiday. Firstly we were shocked to find the drinks had practically doubled in price, and the cocktail menu had been shrunk from a book to a limited number of cocktails on an A4 sheet menu with the other drink prices. I think that they are trying to get people to go for the drinks packages, which were very high, but we dont drink enough to warrant them. Cocktail of the Day $US9 others $12-$14US.

The food was excellent as usual, if you ate in the dining room. Windjammer was ok, and great range, but was cold if you left it too late. On sailing days the kitchen staff organised bbq's or large fresh buffet lunches on the main pool deck, they were excellent. But not advertised. We only found out by accident as we were on the pool deck at the time. The large picture screen up in the centre of the pool deck is fully underutilised. It did not change at all and had a looped mini show of underwater life and the beach. It was the same for 14 days! They could easily have put on various programmes on the screen, of the places we would visit and scenic places. That could also be looped but would give some info at the same time. The movie of the day was screened on there twice a night from 7pm and 10pm.

The evening shows were excellent, and very enjoyable. The staff on the ship work extremely long hours and very hard. You seemed to see the same staff from early in the morning until very late at night! We thought that the staff were very hard working and very lovely people, a credit to Royal Carribean. Getting the tenders was reasonably ok, but getting them back to the boat was sometimes a matter of being patient. In Bali, we waited over an hour in the heat, and some staff members were there with water and a cold cloth thankfully, but for the older members it was a long wait. Then we were told by others, that before us they had waited 2 hours for the tender to take them back to the ship. It wasnt like that at all tender ports, only some, but its something to be aware of.

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D2

It was a lovely room. Well appointed and plenty of room for the two of us. The large sofa was great. You are very close to the Centrum, so if you are a light sleeper it wouldnt work for you. We heard all of the entertainment every night through our room, but it didnt bother us as we were so tired, we fell asleep. It went until just before midnight.

So steer clear if you want peace and quiet at night. We also had a constant vibration through our room. It was annoying at the beginning, then we got used to it. We asked others, and they said they had it too, so maybe it was something to do with the ship?

Our bed was hard, but we asked for a topper and it was perfect after that. Our cabin lady was fantastic, Jil, always a smile and couldnt do enough for you.

If we were to choose on that ship again, we would go closer to the centre of that deck where the noise would be less. In saying that it didnt spoil our holiday. The upside of being so close to the Centrum was that you got to the lifts quicker and it was very close to get to your room!

Perfect size room for the two of us.

Very very boring, and we left mid tour and took a taxi and did our own thing.
