  3. Carnival Sunshine
We sailed on the Carnival Sunshine leaving on October 10, 2015. We had heard great things about the ship, some were true, others were not. First the good. The crew on the ship was excellent, everyone was first class. One of the nicest crews we have ever had. Also, lots of the Funship 2.0 upgrades. Kind of. Now the bad. They crammed the 2.0 upgrades into the Destiny, and added a bunch of rooms (and decks). But it was done weirdly. For example, the Red Frog Pub is one of our favorite "go to" places on the Breeze. A really nice place. However, on the Sunshine, it really was part of Ocean Plaza. When there was music in Ocean Plaza, the Red Frog Pub was so loud that it was difficult to hold a conversation. When the more mellow sounds of the Pub were playing, Ocean Plaza had no music. So, while we had the pub, things really alternated between the Ocean Plaza and the Pub. Another problem that we found was that things seemed crowded, especially on sea days. They did not enlarge the halls, so after events, they were really crowded. The comedians were terrific, but the Limelight Lounge was too small. And you had to exit into "nowhere land" out the back, after the show. The Serenity Deck was filled. Most all day during sea days. In fact, most every lounge chair on the ship was filled on sea days. The fitness room was a real disappointment. When we got on the ship, four treadmills were out of commission, as well as a variety of other equipment. These were not fixed during the duration of the trip. Not sure where the original fitness room was located, but normally there are spectacular views out the front of the ship. On the Sunshine, you can see a big white hunk of metal, except for the sides. Now the fun. Carnival does a great job of having fun activities, and their cruise directors are second to none. Our cruise directer, Jaime, was terrific. She was everywhere on the ship, and made the cruise very enjoyable. Food. Some folks think that Carnival Food is lacking, but I disagree with them. Main Dining Room food and service was excellent. The Marketplace buffet food was good, but very crowded. A hint is to plan on taking your food back to the Havana Bar at the aft of the ship. We discovered this the first day, and it got steadily more populated as others also discovered it. On and off the ship in ports - Excellent, they really know how to move people. Room - 7145 - Two up to lido and 3 down to main dining, we like that position on the ship, and it worked well for us. This was another non-elevator cruise, no weight gain! To sum up, food was great, crew was great, room was great, entertainment was great, ship design was (is) lacking. Any day cruising is better than the best day at work, but I'll probably use one of the other fine Carnival ships, and not the Sunshine Frankenstein!

Sun may have set on the Carnival Sunshine.

Cabin Review

Interior
Cabin 4F 7145
Full size shower. Let me repeat this, full size shower. Room is a typical small Carnival room, very adequate for two people. Enough storage space. No refrigerator. No sofa or chair, except for a stool in front of the desk. Quiet location, and in the middle of everything!
Deck 8 Inside Cabins, Balcony Cabins
