We just came back from our Mediterranean Cruise, and the experience is pretty POOR. We embarked in Istanbul & disembarked in Venice, which was in the reverse direction as stated in the "Viking Cruises 2015 & 2016 Ocean Cruises" booklet. In the booklet, it clearly stated that on Day 1 (if you embark in Venice), there's supposed to have an included tour, which bring you to St. Mark's Square, en route to Doge's Palace, and "On this included tour, you will also visit St. Mark's Basilica..." However, our trip that ended (disembark) in Venice has no included tour, actually there's no tour organized for going to St. Mark's Square at all (even if we're willing to pay). When we called 1-855-viking after our trip to inquire how the trip was supposed to be: we were reassured (more than once) that the itineraries with the departures in the reverse direction (opposite to what's stated in the book) are the same in reverse sequence, and we won't be missing out anything. After we told the staff on the phone that we're just back, and there's nothing organized on our last day, the staff started finding excuses: Maybe we booked our flight too early & we missed out on our own, but we actually booked the air with viking also. Then the staff changed the excuse to "it's not really an included tour", (even though the booklet printed in black & white), it's just if you're travelling to Venice on Day 1, and you have the option to do it on your own time if you arrived early enough. This kind of advertising is very confusing (of course to the advantage of Viking), if the departures in reverse direction don't have everything as stated, it should be mentioned upfront in the booklet (no matter how fine the print is). And when a customer called & inquired specifically about it, still stated that it's exactly the same itineraries only in reverse direction is a deliberate LIE. And after they found out the information given out was wrong, just finding excuses is BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Services in the Explorer desk/ front desk in the cruise were quite POOR also. The excursion organization was TERRIBLE. We found out all the excursions we booked weeks / months ahead were changed only after we boarded the ship, excursion times were in conflict, and the staff at the explore's desk (front desk) is not much help either. The ship is new & dining experience is good. Services in restaurants & housekeeping department is good. But unfortunately the positive experience ended here. Travellers were not just looking for a good restaurant / hotel, thus the whole trip is NOT up to par. We are really disappointed at the shore excursion arrangments, especially not even fulfilling what was advertised in black and white. We strongly recommend if anyone still want to sign up for ocean cruises with Viking to ask all the specific questions regarding each port's itinerary. You cannot just assume what was written in their advertising booklet from your travel agency would be fulfilled. And you may have to ask a few times, since there're contradicting info given out from different staff (and they are good at finding excuses).
