This was my first experience on a Norwegian cruise, and I was very pleased with my experience. So much so that I have booked another trip in December aboard the Norwegian Dawn. We sailed out of Miami, which is your stereotypical tourist trap city, but we enjoyed the white sand beaches there. Getting aboard the Epic certainly had its fair share of long lines to get on and off the ship, but that is the same with almost any cruise, and this is an extremely large ship. At the time, the Epic was the largest ship in Norwegian's fleet.

The activities on board left much to be desired though. I specifically recall going to an origami class and they did not even have a Japanese crew member teaching the course. Bless the crew members heart, but he could not do origami well enough to effectively teach a course on it. I feel like the Epic was depending a lot their shows to keep people entertained and gave very little thought to many of their other activities. Don't get me wrong, the entertainment (which included Cirque Dreams, Second City, and the Blue Man Group) was wonderful and made for a great evening, but when you have a couple sea days to kill on board, you need a lot more things to distract you during the day. I often found myself just staying in my stateroom or on the outer decks reading my Kindle during the day rather than participating in activities. The Epic definitely has room for improvement in this area.

I have no complaints about the service on the Epic. My room steward was wonderful and attentive, and knew what I needed before I did. This is the only ship to offer single traveler staterooms, which I stayed in, and those staterooms were beautiful. Very purple, but beautiful. The cuisine on the ship covered all bases and if you have a craving for something, it was only a short walk from your stateroom and you could get it. Overall, I enjoyed my experience on board.
