My wife and I were looking forward to the trip as neither of us had been to Bermuda and that was the primary reason we had selected this sailing. Leading up to the trip, we started seeing reviews about the quality of the RCCL experience, but as a loyal RCCL cruiser, we just shook it off. We should have listen more. Overall, we saw a real degrade in food quality and service. Hopefully this is limited to just the Liberty since speaking to other guests, the Oasis and Quantum class ships are much better.
For us, the issues started before we left home. With hurricane Joaquin churning, we knew our cruise could be impacted. We were upset though that the change to skip Bermuda and head to Saint Johns NB Canada was only told to us 8 PM on the night before the cruise. We had to scramble to repack clothes and adjust expectations. While this a great disappointment given Bermuda was why we chose this cruise, we have to give RCCL applause for how they handled the change on board. The captain did a great job of explaining why there was a need for the change, and RCCL offered us an additional OBC from 300 to 1200 per cabin, based on the category. We had a balcony room, so we received $800 OBC for the impacts of missing Bermuda. From there, most of the trip was just average at best.
First off, food quality. What a disgrace for RCCL. We boarded and went to the Windjammer for lunch. The crowd was expected, but there was almost no support service, and the food was HORRIBLE. We heard it was bad at WJ, but this really exceeded those low expectations. But it wasn't limited to the day of boarding. We gave WJ a second shot on the next sea day with the same results. I really believe the team could take lessons from Golden Corral on how to prepare a buffet. I would take GC any day over the Windjammer experience.
