Royal Caribbean Is a big ripoff. Just did a New England/Canada cruise and the cruise line canceled one of the ports for a trumped up reason, which I found out later. Then, they did not find another port in its place, there was at least one other available. Then, although they told me, and my travel agent, that the port fees and taxes would be added to our on-board account, that did not happen. Then they The fees and taxes came to somewhere around $96 or more, times 3000+ is a nice profit.

The Liberty of the Seas was home ported out of Bayonne, NJ. and was sailing nine days to New England and Canada. We were to make stops in Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine, Saint John NB (Canceled), Halifax, NS, and Boston, Massachusetts. Turns out we only went to four ports/port days in 9 days (Average of 8 hours in Port), we spent more day time at sea than in port. Compare that with the two other cruses (with other lines), 7 days, 5 ports/port days (Average of 9 hours in Port) and 15 days, 12 ports, 14 port days (Average of 10 hours in Port). But, at what was a average speed of just under 10 knots, we were not getting anywhere fast. Lots of time to play the slots, and buy paintings and booze.

Royal Caribbean is known for nickel and diming (more like $500 and $1000) you to death. While other cruise lines are starting to offer reduced or free WiFi, they have one of the highest rates. While other cruise lines offer free or low cost water, juice and soda, Royal Caribbean charges one of the highest rates. And from the look of it, the alcohol packages (I am not a drinker) are also very high.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E3

We had Stateroom 8328 which was billed as a Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony, it was the size a hotel room. Considering the upgrade which we did not do on the other two cruises, we had a lot more room with them. There was just enough room to move around. The bathroom was very small, the shower was claustrophobic and not big enough to towel off in. The TV had what was going on that day and the next and a lot of RC commercials and little else unless you paid for it (they did show some of the football games). The cabin attendant was good however.

Port Reviews

Bayonne (Cape Liberty)

Bayonne is not very close to anything.

Portland (Maine)

Not a lot to do.

Boston

Lots to see and do even on your own.
