I am a travel agent and cruising is my specialty. I have been waiting to cruise on the Getaway for so long and it did not disappoint. This was by far my most favorite ship I have ever sailed on. I travelled with my husband, 2 year old daughter and my mother and we all stayed in 1 inside cabin. The room was small and cramped but it was fine because we were barely in the room except to sleep. During the cruise we celebrated my daughter's 2nd birthday and my husband's 30th birthday. I was worried about traveling with my toddler but I think she enjoyed it the most. There were tons of activities for children and she constantly had a smile on her face. Everyone was so great about celebrating her birthday that the children's staff even decorated with streamers and balloons and had a present wrapped for her.

The entertainment was fabulous! I loved everyone on the cruise director's team- especially Jose Jaramilla Jr.! I have never laughed so hard. I wish he came on all NCL cruises. The glow party was great but because of hurricane Joaquin it was moved into the Tropicana room which was entirely too small and cramped. The 16 foot waves were also so rough that I had to leave early to go lay down unfortunately. I wish they would have postponed it for a different night so we could thoroughly enjoy it!

The food was just ok. Even after the thousands of choices by the end of the week I was tired of the food. I was a bit disappointed in our housekeeping and the staff at the guest relations desk. Typically on cruises we bond with our housekeepers and form close relationships with them. Our housekeeper was quiet and seemed very annoyed when we asked for towels or asked her for anything. We thought it might be because she was shy and quiet. The housekeeper that was in charge of the rooms next to us was very rude as well. I asked him to move his cart so I could scoot my daughter's stroller by one day. When I realized I was going the wrong way and needed to come back he told me rudely that I made him move it for nothing, even though it was only 3 feet away.

Cabin Review

Family Inside Stateroom

Cabin I1

The family inside staterooms were extremely small but were in excellent condition. Everything was very clean and the decor was beautiful and modern. It was also conveniently located near the children's areas which was FANTASTIC!!!! It helped so much!

Port Reviews

Miami

The port of Miami was very easy to locate, clean and well-kept. We have taken several cruises out of here and for some reason every ship we have gotten on has been very late because they haven't cleared customs. This has never happened at any other port.

St. Thomas

We didn't take an excursion with the cruise line here. Instead I had researched online and decided to take a taxi to Coki Beach. It was fantastic! We snorkeled with dog bones that the locals gave us and I have never seen so many fish! This beach was beautiful and well-kept and we never felt unsafe. The taxi rides were $8 a person each way.

Tortola

Yet again, no excursion. We took a taxi to cane garden bay and it was breathtaking. The beach was large, clean and we never felt unsafe. I will warn you that the taxi ride there was very scary! The roads are narrow and along huge hills with no barriers. The giant taxi buses had to honk along the road to keep from hitting any other cars head on in the curves. It was well worth the drive though! Our taxi driver back drove much better.
