Embarkation at Southampton quick and easy, cases outside our cabin upon getting to it. The cabin itself was clean and tidy but a little tired especially the carpets. The public areas again were clean and tidy, but the years of continuous use were starting to show. However look at your own place before doing a "Grand Designs" on the ship, the upkeep of which must be on a staggering scale . There is an automatic per person daily charge added to you account, this can be removed by filling in a form from reception.
The food I found was excellent, available 24/7, with plenty of choice and more than you could eat. I read with amusement the reviews which say the choice of food was not enough or not of a high enough standard, when you would have nothing like that choice or quality at home. I would definitely recommend eating at both Sindhu and Epicurian, the small cover charge is worth every penny.
As for Butlins at sea, it could be if you wanted it to be and if you did not there were plenty of quite places you could hide away from it all. Why put yourself in a position or location you do not have to be in then moan about being there...leave!
Clean, tidy, a little tired. Our Steward was able to clean and change our room in what appeared to be a few seconds. He was helpful attentive and did all he could to make our stay on board special. They work long hours and it is hard work, if something is not right tell them and they will try to put it right. Don't wait till you get home and tell us about it, it's too late and unfair on the stewards if they have not been given the opportunity to do somthing.
I would without question recommend lunch at the cafe facing the wall of film stars..I cannot remember what it was called unfortunately.
Not a lot to do, once you have walked into the shopping street..that's it!
Again once you had walked the main street and the roman ruins that was it. Clean tidy with some nice shops.
