Cabin: Junior Suite

I had read months and months of reviews and must admit that I was keeping my hopes alive that i would enjoy my first cruise just by keeping an open mind and thinking positive.

Sure there were plenty of things that could be improved upon but it was still DEFINITELY worth sailing on this ship.

For my first cruise Royal Caribbean did pretty well and ticked 90% of the boxes for me... I loved cruising and being able to do anything or nothing !!

Cabin Review

Junior Suite

Cabin JS

This cabin is a long way down the corridor towards aft (back) of ship but that was ok it meant we had to do some walking after eating !! It also meant not much passing traffic so pretty quiet and it is right near some (secret) stiars up to the solarium pool area via the spa which we used often except at night when the spa was shut after 9pm.

It is below the hairdressing / nail salon part of the spa so no above noise at all.

For a JS it was roomy and spacious, had two sofa chairs and a three seater lounge that could fold out to a double bed and the balcony pretty big. I was disappointed to not have a walk in wardrobe area as was stated on deck plans. There were plenty of cupboards and drawers but there was not any where to stuff suitcases which was annoying as that was one of the bonus reasons we decided to upgrade. It appears that there are several different cabin designs in same category so it is luck of the draw as to your layout.

We wanted twin beds but wanted them split far apart (as I am a snorer) so we rearranged the whole room and had the two beds facing different directions on different walls and our room attendant laughed and said she had never seen that !! It worked for us and we paid for it so we will have it how we wanted it !! Also there was No sun-lounge out on balcony and more than enough room for one....we saw some other cabins had one on our last day and wished we had thought to of asked the staff to bring us one down from the top deck as they were hardly used up there.

Our beds were comfy....I don't like firm but i would say they were medium and we requested extra pillows as I am asthmatic. Some pillows were firm some soft.....Bathroom good, amenties provided but we didnt use them and plenty of hot water anytime. The shower was in a bath with hand held sprayer and the bath was a great treat. There was no full length mirror which i like to have and it was difficult putting on makeup in bathroom but lighting was good.

Air cond worked just fine, no problems. There was no clock but in this century that was not a problem as i just used by mobile phone and had it on flight mode. Room had a small fridge more like a cooler and didn't get too cold but was adequate but many we spoke to said that many of general rooms did not have fridges. Linen was all clean, crisp and fresh and white no complaints.

There is no laundry and the few people we spoke to who used the service were happy with it except for one family who had lost 6 shirts as labelling came off in wash they were told....so lesson no 399 of cruising....if you use ships laundry label your own clothes!!

We looked into several of the inside cabins on this floor and they seemed pretty roomy.

Port Reviews

Lombok

I regret not taking a tour here as it is a very basic older version of Bali island and the port is quite a distance from anywhere touristy.

I caught a private taxi into town but battled to find anyone with good english and all wanted was a pedicure and manicure but out of three taxi drivers no one knew what a spa was!! there is a great big new shopping mall just finished this year with a Matahari on the top floor but it was mostly empty still no shops so wait another year before going to this. others reported having a lovely beach day but swamped by hawkers and others went to the Gili islands and reported a lovely day out.

Langkawi

It was VERY foggy (smoky) like Singapore was and so we decided not to do sightseeing which was disppointing as i had planned to do the cable car. This was not offered as a tour on the ship but plenty of other passengers said they took a taxi into town and did it. Lots of people purchased their duty free alcohol here but i didnt as I was not aware the prices were such bargains....next time !!

Broome

We had a dock here and so that was nice and easy and the ship provided free shuttle buses into town as public are not allowed to walk down the jetty.

It is about a 10 min ride into town and it is very nice, plenty to see and lots of tours. I took the hop on hop off bus around and looked at the town, got off a Cable Beach and stayed there for a few hours which was just totally AMAZING and I am well used to seeing nice beaches as I live in Perth but this place was just glorious.

The RED dirt was just incredible to see and i would love to return.

Geraldton

The ship bypassed Gero as it was very windy and too rough but really there is NOTHING here worth stopping for so I would have been far far far happier having a longer time in other ports and missing this stop all together.

Singapore

We stayed in Singapore 3 days prior to boarding and had a great time. There was just not enough time to see nearly enough so will love to return. The over whelming smoke issue was very bad with visability of about 10 to 20 meters some days... the locals say this non stop smog has been occuring from August to Nov for about 3 years now coming from burning off fires in Surabaya in Indonesia. This smoke followed our journey for the first 4 days so we didnt see a blue sky unti we got closer to Bali. Do NOT travel at this time of the year.....
