MSC Divina Cruise Review by Frank Galway

  • Sail Date: Sep 2015
  • Destination: the Western Mediterranean
  • Cabin Type: Oceanview Stateroom

My wife and i travelled as part of a group of 27 travellers. We spent two nights in bacelona prior to joining the ship.

Check in at barcelona port was very efficient and well organised. Divina is a big ship with capacity of nearly 4,000 passengers and crew of circa. 1350.

Service from staff on board was excellent at all levels from reception, buffet, bars, waiter/waitress, restaurant, cabin steward, poolside attendants and staff when leaving and returning to the ship when docked.

Our cabin was very comfortable and extremely well attended to by our steward with ready supply of towels for both showering and for using at pool. Dining in the restaurant at a table of eight was most enjoyable each night with an excellent anjar who was very attentive and chatted to us each evening. The menu could have been a bit more varied but there was always something acceptable to each of the 8 of us at the table. I had read some very poor reviews of the food before we left on the cruise but could not find any evidence of this while on board either in the buffet or the restaurant.

The shows each night were excellent.

The only disappointment were the excursions which in our opinion and the opinion of other members of our group were overpriced, rushed and very poor value. For example we took the excursion to pisa on sunday sept 20th. It cost €125 and lasted about 5 hours in all including time spent getting off and back on the ship. In all we spent two hours on the bus, one hour in pisa with a local tour guide whose english was difficult to understand and who walked very quickly and then an hour free time which included making our way back to meeting point to board bus for journey back to ship. The objective of the two guides (on bus and in pisa) was to get job done and get us back to ship asap. Another couple in our group took excursion to capri from naples and spent over one hour and twenty minutes waiting for bus on Capri and length of excursion remained the same with no additional time added on.

Difficult to establish what involvement MSC had in organising excursions as they had a disclaimer on their booking form on board yet were promoting the excursions on their daily bulletin delivered to our cabins.

Disembarkation was very smooth and went very well.

As title above says i would highly recommend Divina but keep away from organised excursions and better to make your own arrangements at each port.
