Booked this trip for my wife's "decade" birthday. Thought it would be a good way to see different parts of Europe. However, a day in each port only gives you a small taste of each location. But that is what we were looking for. I've sailed on Royal Caribbean twice before and three times on Carnival. I found the check in process in Barcelona to be extremely smooth. Short lines moved right along. Got right in to our room.
The ship:
The ship is beautiful. Not as like other ships I've been on with so much crazy patterns and decorations that you are almost seasick before the ship moves. Very tasteful throughout the ship. Art everywhere. We swore the kept replacing the art in the stairwells, because we never seemed to see the same piece twice! I personally liked the various "neighborhoods". Central Park was beautiful, but they could tone down the bird noises. I'm not sure if it was so loud an annoying so as to scare of the real birds. All the specialty restaurants are in this location. Which makes it nice.
Nicely laid out. Enough room for all our clothes. Bathroom nice size. Shower AWESOME! Bed extremely comfortable. Deck was nice size with a table and two chairs. Loved the view in the mornings and evenings. Room steward was always helpful, yet unobtrusive.
Just took shuttle in to town. Only 5 euro per person round trip. Went in to the Cathedral. Very nice audio tour with pictures for 7 euro per person. Good value. You can take pictures inside without flash.
Took shuttle in to town. Same distance as Mallorca, maybe closer, but 23 euro per person. Not sure why. Took Petite Train up to Notre Dame de la Garde. Beautiful views of the port. Free to enter Basilica. We did the Museum for about 6 euro a piece. Kind of nice to see history of church.
Took public train to Vernazza. Part of Cinque Terra. Had lunch by the sea. Very nice. hiked up to the top of the castle. Amazing views of the coast line and the town. Only a couple of euro to get up there.
