Having saved and worked hard to do this transatlantic cruise both ways we were thoroughly disappointed with Cunard. The ship looks tired and as for 'formal' nights don't bother dressing up as the dress code was NOT adhered to, we often came across passengers in jeans, trainers, shorts in the dining room, theatre and ballroom! Some members of staff were very unhelpful and didn't respect your personal space or kept asking you if you wanted a drink in the bar which we found out later was because they charged you service on top of the daily charge they had taken from you! Opt out of this and have enough dollars to settle your bill as their exchange rate was extortionate! Unless you got in the pool at 7am it was full of screeching children.
Our shower didn't work and we had to report it 3 times before it was sorted on the third day. The photographers are extremely rude saying they could make you look younger, implying I look old at 58 and were not particularly of good standard. The 'escort' men for reasons best known to themselves attended beginners ballroom dancing lessons pushing paying passengers out of the way to get to the front. The food was excellent, however the service left a lot to be desired as on 5 occasions they got our choices wrong, clearly not listening to what we had said. One wine waiter had to be told that we needed to read the menu before making our choice of overpriced wine. Lastly the internet charges were horrendous so be prepared to spend lots of money if you cruise with Cunard! Please note all of the above complaints were put into their post cruise survey and 6 weeks later we have yet to hear from them, despite their website saying they take our comments seriously and will reply in 28 days.
