Overall we had a fantastic time on our Viking Star "Mediterranean Odyssey" trip! The ship is absolutely beautiful and the Staff was very friendly and took special care of us. Some of the excursions were too long for us to take in the heat, amount of walking, etc., so we skipped a couple of those and just enjoyed a mellow day onboard ship. Glad we did this because folks who took those tours arrived back later in the day and looked very exhausted. The one day at sea seemed to appeal to lots of passengers because they could just relax and enjoy the amenities onboard ship. Our new favorite place is Croatia and we enjoyed both stops in this country. Part of our enjoyment was the excursions we took and both had excellent local guides, smaller groups, and we experienced some local customs and country scenery.

We've taken two Viking river cruises in the past and really enjoyed those trips. It was hard to not compare the river cruises to this ocean cruise experience, but in the end, we enjoyed both experiences. River cruising was smaller and more personal and we saw beautiful scenery everyday. Because of the smaller size boat, we were able to connect with the same people everyday and became friends during the trip. The ship is much larger in size and number of people, so it was less personal than the river boat, especially for those of us traveling as a couple and not a group. But, in the end, we did meet lots of wonderful people and established a few new friendships. We did agree that the Viking Star was a perfect size "ship" and we probably would never travel on one of the huge ships.

We would recommend both river cruising and ocean cruising with Viking!
