Just returned from a 15 night transatlantic cruise on Royal Princess. To start, she is a truly gorgeous, elegant vessel. The Piazza Atrium on Deck 5 is stunning, the Restaurants are decorated in the fashion of the most elegant on land and throughout the ship wood and brightwork gleam,
Our cabin, a "balcony" cabin on Deck 9 was fine, although a trifle small. The balcony is so small that the only way you can use the chairs provided is to slant them at a 45 degree angle. Forget about having even a small table. So the 'balcony' portion of the trip was unfortunately very sparse.
We opted for traditional dining in the Allegro Dining Room and found the food to be far superior to that we had had in previous transatlantic trips with Celebrity and HAL. There was truly not a 'bad menu' night in the 15. Our waiter and assistant were first class, friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. Lunch in the Horizon pair of cafeterias was also pretty decent - typical cafeteria fare but they always managed to have a second buffet with a given theme (Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Italian, etc.) so if you wanted to explore new options you could. I never saw the cafeterias overcrowded save on desembarkation day, when 3000 passengers all wanted their breakfast at the same time. And even then, the staff handled it remarkably well.
