Let's get the bad points out the way first. Since last upgrade Explorer has too many passengers compared to deck space. Despite out of season still a challenge to find seats in some bars at peak times. Shops on the promenade vastly understocked. Not helped by some staff bragging of commendation received from over selling on previous cruise, and then not offering you an alternative. Staff in starbucks coffee shop not much better. New addition "The Black Sea Band" murdering some classic hits, at times resembling Vic Reeves club singer from shooting stars.

A tip would also be not to believe a lot about travel times on excursions as generally they were twice as long, reducing your free time at destination cities. Equally shuttle buses are extortionate for what they are. £16 for 4 adults to go a mile?

Now the good bits, which significantly outward the bad. Standards of service very high. Sapphire dining room a delight, food varied and plentiful, not a bad meal over the 16 nights. Specialty dining raised the bar even higher. Rooms clean, regularly serviced and staff friendly to approach. Bars service prompt, staff knew your preferences, always keen to chat and provide advice. Entertainment good, Cruise director adult comedy show a highlight and a surprise.

Port Reviews

Gibraltar

Very easy to do on your own. We hired taxi from port, very easy and very reasonable.

Barcelona

Used taxi. More reasonable than shuttle bus if more than one. Barcelona food market a highlight.
