We really enjoyed this cruise! First, is should be noted that in some cases Tracy's Arm - is bypassed due to the conditions around the inlet. From ice to fog, if the ship can't get through it safely, they bypass it.

Amazingly, the Captain, Captain Mercer was first afraid that we were not getting into Tracy's Arm because the aforementioned ice. We started our trek to Eddicott Pass instead. However, in true amazement, he was able to see that Tracy's Arm was opened and HE DID BOTH! Many cruise lines I feel do not invest in this type of "protection" to ensure all parts of the cruise are completed. He did.

During rough seas - we also had the chance of Sitka being cancelled due to the tender operation. For the first time ever, on our cruise, the ms Amsterdam docked in Sitka. Holland America line even provided bus service to get you back into downtown from the dock. We were told later on that again, Captain Mercer got this taken care of - and saved the port of call. A strong BRAVO!

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Cabin C

Great location, very quiet and in good condition. We upgraded about a month prior for a small amount from the largest inside cabins. The views were great as we saw whales right outside our window.

The room features a full size couch, two twin beds or put into one queen bed, a number of closets, DVD player and small flatscreen, a desk with plenty of storage and a full bathroom with bathtub/shower.

Port Reviews

Seattle

Remember though to do research, many transfers are cheaper than what Holland America line offer. Also a number of Airport hotels offer their own transfers at half the price of Holland.

Juneau

A great stop on the cruise. Checkout TripAdvisor for many tours NOT offered by Holland America line. We found many great deals - especially with bear watching. For a great tour, always look for "Brown" bears as the guide to what to see. Brown bears are harder to find and provide great entertainment.

Sitka

Not many cruise lines go here - it is a great city! Great Russian/American history with Native American culture. Get out to the Totem park for all kinds of free tours and demonstrations. Walk through the forest.

Ketchikan

WAY TOO much shopping - limited activities beyond SHOPPING. However, check out the National Park museum downtown. For $5 it's a great way to learn about Alaska and watch a few award winning films.

Victoria

You are here for about 6 hours - it's a required stop due to the "Jones Act" It's not a great place.
