We've just returned from our first cruise with RCCL and sad to say it was our last. We set sail on the Vision of the Seas from Barcelona on Tuesday 1st September with great anticipation and excitement having heard mainly good things. Unhappily we were to be disappointed. The ship was nice enough and the cabin with balcony the best we have encountered so far in our cruising experience. Our disappointed came with our first visit to the main dining room with the sheer lack of quality and food options available. Service was great but the offer of a basic three course dinner, poorly cooked and presented, really lets the ship down. We had duck as our main and couldn't believe the amateur presentation with two huge grey lumps of overcooked flesh, two bland potato croquettes and two bits of tasteless veg. Standards never improved over the 4 visits we made to the formal dining room so we opted to eat most of our meals in the Windjammer (buffet style) and made three very expensive bookings in the "specialist" restaurants.
Our other concerns about the cruise line relate to the high costs for drinks - despite pre-purchasing the premium drinks package we couldn't get a decent glass of wine throughout the trip. Even when I paid an extra $7 for a tiny bottle of wine it wasn't good. I would recommend that if possible you stick to spirits because you will struggle otherwise.
Overall we would sadly not be able to recommend this cruise line despite the great crew and good facilities because the food and drink is so poor.
The cabin was very nice and spacious. Good facilities and very good cabin steward. The modernised bathrooms are very good.
