My wife and I took the Fly-Cruise package for ten days this fall. This included round trip air from Chicago to Rome, a seven day cruise, and two extra nights in Rome after the cruise. All transfers were included as well.

The flight from Chicago to Rome was on Alitalia. The flight itself was great, good service in Coach and a direct flight helped as well. The transfers from the airport to the port before and after the cruise were very large groups though, so there is a lot of waiting around until the entire group can be moved at once. This led to quite a long delay at the airport and at disembarkation.

The cruise stopped at La Spezia/Cinque Terre, Cannes, Palma, Barcelona and Naples before returning to Rome. The cruise itself was good, service was excellent, but food quality and options were satisfactory to sub-par.

Port Reviews

Rome (Civitavecchia)

The port in Rome is almost an hour from the airport.

La Spezia (Cinque Terre)

Our favorite part of the trip. The excursions are unnecessary here, you will get more out of hiking the coastal trails yourself. For 12 euro per person, you can get an all day train pass and ticket to the national park at the train station in La Spezia.

Cannes

Cannes was interesting, a nice beach town with plenty to see and do.

Palma de Mallorca (Majorca)

Palma has a very nice cathedral that is a must see, otherwise it is a beach city with the typical look and feel.
