This was my first river cruise, after several cruises on large ships. Our group of four (all single retirees) had decided on a short cruise this time in order to see how well we traveled as a foursome and to learn a bit more about Viking. We were not disappointed and found the cruise to be delightful. The only negative was the plane travel. The food on board the ship was excellent, and the staff was more than helpful with just the right amount of attentiveness and cheer. The entertainment was OK, but I felt that the cruise itself and all the people we met at dinner and on the excursions were the main event and purpose of the cruise.

I would have liked to spend some time in the embarkation/disembarkation cities before or after the cruise. The hotels listed by Viking for "our" cities were a little too pricey, but now we realize that we could have made our own arrangements. All four of us plan on taking another river cruise with Viking in the future.

Cabin Review

French Balcony

Room was fine, Loved the heated bathroom floor (our weather was a little chilly and sometimes rainy). Closet door opened and closed by itself with the motion of the ship; not welcome at night!

Port Reviews

Heidelberg

Bought a bottle of Riesling which I brought back to the States....excellent wine which unfortunately we cannot get here in the States, sigh. Ranks well with other "caves" I've visited.

Cologne

The cathedral is amazing....could return there and did in the afternoon when I wandered about on my own.
