This was our maiden voyage with Viking River Cruises and our experience was far above as we expected. We took the one of the only two Explorer Suites of Viking Emerald Ship and were treated royally. Our son had his own stateroom which was a few rooms from us. Our fellow travelers in our group were all terrific, our tour guide Ray was the best, very knowledgeable and extremely professional while displaying his sense of humor. We were so glad that we took the Beijing to Shanghai route since going downstream the Yangtze River is much better. I highly recommend this trip to the world class travelers to complete your bucket list! Definitely a TRIP OF A LIFETIME! I mean how many people you know could say, "I have conquered The Great Wall"?
The best location on the entire ship. Located just below the ship's bridge (3rd deck). Viking Emerald is the only ship of Viking where the Explorer Suites is located on the bow, they're mostly at the back of the ship.
It was a perfect day, not too hot but it was crowded considering it was still summer vacation for the kids. It was a surreal experience conquering The Great Wall!
Saw a lot of the famous tourist spots in the area. Book your flight with Viking and you can have an extra full day in Beijing to explore on your own or choose an optional excursion to visit Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace.
It's a fascinating place considering it was built a long time ago. Definitely a big part of Chinese history.
We felt awkward at first when we told we were going to visit a local family in their house but after all said and done, we were greatful of it. It made you almost feel their way of living by seeing it with your own eyes.
The place was very crowded but still a lot of things to see. You should be warned about their bathrooms to bring your own toilet paper and soap.
It was a beautiful temple indeed where you can see a number of newly wed getting their pictures taken.
It was a very hot day when we visited. Walking on a cement pavement made that stop a short one since the heat was almost unbearable.
They were all very educational and brought more perspective in our minds about Chinese history.
