We are a pair of celebrity addicts in our early 30s sailing without children. We LOVE celebrity and have as yet to try any other line... We travelled to Southampton by car and parked at a friends house. We boarded quickly and comfortably at about 12:30 - 30 minutes or less since arrival at the pier.
This was our third trip on the Eclipse out of Southampton and this cruise combined our favourite Fjord ports of previous cruises. The Eclipse is now four (ish!?) years old but shows no signs of wear. No rust, no buckled floors nor any strange sewage smells (unlike our last Millennium cruise...). The guest areas were spotlessly clean. Previously we have found that used glasses and plates etc. are discarded where their uses finished them and left quite a while. None of that on this trip!
The staff were polite and helpful - our room attendants Mario and Smith made every request feel like nothing was too much trouble. We had select dining so no repeated service but we recognised some familiar faces from previous trips (Jeronimo!). Bar staff were largely attentive although the martini bar had less personality than we are used to - very little 'entertainment' factor this time :( We did get a little grumpy the first few nights with the constant recomendantions to upgrade to the premium drinks package. In fact we left two bars because the bar tender's pushiness were grating on us - one bar tender even got a calculator out and started showing us breakdowns! "No thanks" just didn't seem to have any effect! Perhaps we need to perfect our steely glare to go with our "No thanks" - clearly the gentle smile didn't work for us.
The Sunnmøre museum was very interesting and easy to get to - bus 618 from the pier. We then took the same bus all the way to the aquarium and back to the pier. Easy! No return tickets.
The Petroleum Museum is much better than it sounds!!
