Day 1 Flight LHR to BUD, met at airport by AMA reps then to the ship by coach with running commentary about Hungary and Budapest. The running commentary became a bit of an issue during the week as I felt that most of the guides considered it necessary to never leave a quiet moment or allow space for questions. Arrived ship around 1500 hours in time for coffee and sandwiches. Most reviewers have described the ship so not much to add, we were satisfied with the size of our cabin and the bed. Don't see much necessity to have two large chairs in the cabin which greatly restricted space. One chair would be fine at least in our "bilge" cabin where we would prefer to be up on deck. Lovely shower and wifi works (when in port)
Day 2 Coach tour of Budapest in the morning bike tour in the afternoon
Day 3 Bratislava "communist" tour. Would have loved more time in this city
Day 4 "Hidden" Vienna walking tour - not particularly hidden except the visit to the the catacombs
Day 5 Walking tour of Durnstein followed by 22 mile bike ride to Melk
Day 6 Linz bike tour in the morning and a visit to Cesky Krumlov in the afternoon
Day 7 Passau walking tour
Day 8 Early start coach to Munich airport flight to LHR
Highlights for me were the three bike tours, Bratislava and Cesky Krumlov.
Food - always good (but not great) but could be hotter.
Drinks - not a lot of choice in the included wines and only red or white - no rose. They were perfectly drinkable.
Fellow passengers - 95% from US/Canada which was a bit of a surprise to us. Age group virtually all over 55/60. Met some really lovely people.
Service by all staff impeccable.
Would we choose AMA again - absolutely. The initial price seemed high but then we hardly spent any money
