We have just returned from a ten day cruise from Hong Kong on Legend of the Seas.We also were constrained by school holidays and other factors as to when we could go and chose this ship as the ports of call sounded interesting We have cruised twice previously on Allure and Oasis and obviously understood that this vessel was older and would not have the theatre shows, flowriders, football courts and other bells and whistles the larger ships had but looked forward to what we hoped would be a more intimate experience Embarkation in Hong Kong could only be described as shambolic with passengers queueing for over two hours while standing in a shopping center Elderly and disabled passengers had to get wheelchairs eventually the queues were moving so slowly We understand that Royal Caribbean may or may not be responsible for this fiasco but there have been criticisms on sites for months now about how bad the check- in in Hong Kong is and seemingly nothing has been done to improve it.I dread to see how they would cope with a ship the size of Allure! Once we finally got onboard we had two cabins, one balcony and one inside and both of these were fine. The initial introductory queue set the scene for the following days. You had to queue for 30 to 40 minutes for a seat in the dining room previously booked. There were never tables in the Windjammer and we felt like pre- schoolers eating off plastic plates. Shore excursions from the ship were really expensive for our family of five. We only booked one and had to queue in a theatre for an hour to get a sticker! Thankfully the excursions we arranged ourselves were fantastic particularly in Taiwan and Kota Kinabalu with local people My Taiwan Tours and Borneo Boats These days were what made the trip special for us not the ship About 3 days before the cruise ended we received a notice in our cabin that there had been a gastrointestinal outbreak onboard and despite meticulous handwashing both my husband and I got ill which spoiled our last few days holiday Thankfully our disabled son did not contract it but I felt annoyed that we were not immediately informed there was a problem so we could protect him There was no problem about making announcements about Sales events! Due to a typhoon we were unable to dock in Boracay where we had booked a really special lunch to celebrate our anniversary. We were only told at the time we were due to dock that tendering could not take place due to weather. We had to pay the$40 daily internet charge which they reduced by fifty per cent to send an email to the hotel to cancel.Did I mention that being on holiday with three teenagers without internet access was like being with a family of ferrets in a tea chest! Overall I regret to say that this cruise did not deliver what we had anticipated for so long The cost of this cruise was the same as for the newer ships with far superior facilities and we will not cruise on the smaller, older ships again

Disappointed

We have just returned from a ten day cruise from Hong Kong on Legend of the Seas.We also were constrained by school holidays and other factors as to when we could go and chose this ship as the ports of call sounded interesting We have cruised twice previously on Allure and Oasis and obviously understood that this vessel was older and would not have the theatre shows, flowriders, football courts and other bells and whistles the larger ships had but looked forward to what we hoped would be a more intimate experience

Embarkation in Hong Kong could only be described as shambolic with passengers queueing for over two hours while standing in a shopping center Elderly and disabled passengers had to get wheelchairs eventually the queues were moving so slowly

We understand that Royal Caribbean may or may not be responsible for this fiasco but there have been criticisms on sites for months now about how bad the check- in in Hong Kong is and seemingly nothing has been done to improve it.I dread to see how they would cope with a ship the size of Allure!

  • Hong Kong
We did not take any excursions in Hong Kong We stayed in the Renaissance New World Harbour view where we were upgraded to two wonderful harbour view rooms. It is directly beside the Star ferry which docks beside Ocean terminal on the other side of the harbour where our cruise ship departed from

We took a tour with a local company called My Filipino Tours and went to Tagatay. Our guide on hearing my sons love of coffee brought us to a shop owned by a woman who should have her own Show to try civet coffee She was hilarious and regaled us with tales of her trip to Las Vegas! We also saw the bamboo organ and Jeepney factory Our guide was really informative and there were absolutely no problems with pick ups and drop off times We would recommend this company
