Just finished an Alaska cruise August 16 to 23. The ship is older, but still quite nice. Always seemed a little crowded. There is no real place that is sort of set aside, everything is a walk through. The staff was great. I have only been on two cruises, but I am amazed at how hard the staff work and how truly pleasant they are. Our fellow passengers were pleasant and we met some nice people. The stopovers were good, and we were so lucky with the weather. We saw a number of whales and just off Campbell River we saw a large pod of killer whales, dolphins, and some humpbacks all in about 15 minutes. Amazing. The Hubbard Glacier was also nice, but we never went to Glacier Bay, which I was told is more impressive.

Our cabin (6031) was nice. The steward was very good. We really do not ask for much, but when we did, it was always attended to right away. We had an extra large deck, but Alaska is not the best place for sitting on your deck. It was quite cold.

The food was a bit of a disappointment. The buffet was pretty good, but the MDR was not so great. The service was excellent, and our Sommelier and waiter were great, but the food was at best so-so. The MDR was a little crowded. The tables were a bit on top of each other.

Port Reviews

Vancouver

We live in Vancouver. It is a great city for visitor. Stanley Park, and the downtown are full of things to do.

Icy Strait

Not a lot to do. The zip line was down due to the weather, which was actually quite nice, so I would imagine it is often down. Not a bad little museum and walk in the bush, but 3 hours was plenty.

Juneau

Very nice little town. Interesting walk around, and I found the locals very friendly. Of course with 3 cruise ships in town there were a lot of tourists. The walk to the top of the mountain with the tram was quite long but worth it.

Ketchikan

Another nice little town. Creek Street was great. There was a salmon run and there were a number of seals hunting them. Pretty cool. Friendly town and we got lucky with the weather. It rains a lot, but we actually saw a little sun.
