Having endured the worst of yet another cold Melbourne winter my wife and I found ourselves more than ready for a mid year escape. We hadn't previously considered a cruise however fortuitously an advert for P+O popped up on screen whilst looking at holiday options. We followed the link to the many specials on offer at the time and booked ourselves a 7 night Pacific Island cruise departing from Brisbane. Being new to cruising we figured the duration was not too onerous and we could simply put it down to experience if we didn't like it. Thankfully, the experience turned out to be nothing but positive. From the well sized cabin to the excellent choice of restaurants and variety of cuisine on offer we simply had a ball. Both crew and passengers alike were friendly and seemingly shared the same intent to have a great time every moment of the day and night. Its fair to say we have come home for a rest after enjoying the various entertainment that is on offer from first light to well into the night however that was our choice and those seeking a less stimulating cruise could equally sit back and relax the days away. If I had to fault anything, it would be the boarding process. Despite having allocated boarding times it seemed to involve a lot of queuing and waiting. In the scheme of things though this was a minor problem and it was soon forgotten. When on board, everything else was well run and timed to perfection. Without a doubt our first experience of cruising was brilliant and we cant wait to do it again.

Cabin Review

Cabin 9251
We were pleasantly surprised with our cabin. Whilst we originally wanted an outside balcony, due to the last minute booking we made, they were well and truly sold out. Nonetheless we found the inside cabin to be perfectly fine, well laid out and with plenty of room for the short time we spent there.

  • Champagne Bay (Vanuatu)
Vila was our favourite stop over. The island and its friendly people offer so much to do and see and its clear they really appreciate the visiting cruises. There were many of us who would have loved the opportunity to stay longer - even if it meant dropping off a stop at Mare in order to do so. Amazing people, amazing sights, amazing history

  • Mare
The Island of Mare is very small and the only activity is really a trip across the island to the beautiful beach for a swim. The weather wasn't the best however the beach and the beautiful blue waters were simply spectacular and worth a visit. My only comment would be that the locals don't really seem to make the most of the visitors and of the opportunity to earn much needed cash from them. I'm sure if they put their minds to it they could increase the tourism contribution significantly without spoiling the beautiful environs of Mare.

  • Noumea
With the ship landing in Noumea late in the afternoon there wasn't really much time to spend looking around, particularly as the city closes around 5-5.30. The tour was informative but I must say it didn't really leave us with a desire to come back and stay there independently of the cruise.
