Boarding went o.k. Very much as expected, they've been doing it long enough. Went to our cabin and were unpacked by 14.00. Had a bite to eat and waited for the highlight of the day, the safety talk. The talk consisted of how to put on a life jacket with the passengers watched by disinterested crew. This safety talk also consisted of port talks and what to do with rubbish. We were in the Curzon Lounge and it was quite crowded. I asked one of the crew how long it would take to evacuate the lounge if there was an emergency. He said quite casually "oh, about half an hour".Compare that to the evacuation of a loaded Boeing 747. The trouble is P & O are so genteel that they do not adopt the policy of fit and able first.

We had booked to see the Arctic Foxes and duly boarded the coach after much hanging around. The tour guide introduced herself and basically that is all we heard. How rich she was, how many houses she owned ,how her pop group was doing and what universities her sons were going to. We arrived at the Artic fox sanctuary to see one six week old cub whose parents had been shot by hunters. As we had booked this trip 10 weeks before travelling we may not have seen any foxes had it not been for the hunters. The next trip was "Ring of Fire". Tour guide was the most boring that I have come across. went to a thermal power station and wondered at the shiney pipework and the steam rising from various exhaust pipes. went on to one of the wonders of the trip, bubbling mud. Problem was the mud hole had dried up. Generally travelled over the most boring countryside imaginable with the occasional whispe of steam rising in the distance.

On to Torshavn on Faroes For me the highlight was seeing "Sam Simon" of Sea Shepherd organisation. Went ashore but was careful not to spend any money thereby supporting the Faroese economy. It was noticed that on Vegar Island 120 pilot whales had been slaughtered two days before P&O visited with a tour.
