I have only sailed on NCL one other time, the Dawn, and it was a horrible experience. The cruise on the Getaway was a completely different experience. I was worried because I feared the ship would be crawling with kids and it was but for the most part they were all very well behaved. It was the adults who seemed to be rude and mean.

The ship itself is beautiful. All bars were clean, with lovely art work hanging on the walls. The public restrooms were clean and neat. The many dining options were excellent. I especially loved O'Sheehan's, where there was a different special every night. Also a good location for breakfast. Cagney's Steakhouse was amazing, as it always is. Unfortunately it has increased it's price by $5.00. I had room service once and the food arrived cool, not warm at all. Placed a call and another tray was sent and this one was better. The Tropicana, Savor and Taste dining rooms were beautifully appointed, clean and the service was impeccable and the food was good, not amazing or great but good. I don't do sushi so I don't know how Wasabi was. I did eat a pastry from Carlo's and was not impressed with it, it was very dry and tasteless.

I had no one do a hard sell on me to buy anything, as many other passengers have experienced and complained about. I was left to decide what I wanted and if I wanted to purchase any extras.

Cabin Review

Oceanview Stateroom with Large Picture Window

Cabin OA

The Getaway is quite beautiful. I had an Ocean View cabin on Deck 10, Cabin 10100. I loved and hated this cabin. My explanation is I loved it because it is one of the largest cabins I have ever had on a cruise ship. I have taken over 30 cruises and this stateroom was well over 250 sq. ft. Because it was at the very front of the ship was the reason it was so large. An amazing amount of storage space, a large bathroom, lots of closet room. The reason I hated this cabin was because it was all the way at the front of the ship. From the forward elevator it took over 10 minutes to walk to this room. A neighbor in the next cabin and I figured out why it was such a long walk. On Deck 10 and 11 is where the Studio cabins are, (the single cabins, 100 sq. ft.). In order to put these cabins in NCL removed the farthest forward elevator, so it is truly a long walk to these cabins. My cabin had a funny noise in it because there was a closet right next door with plumbing lines and it sounded like water running and toilets flushing 24 hours a day. The noise didn't bother me but the walk to the cabin did. I love the room, storage space and view but don't like the walk to get to the cabin.
