I was a bit disappointed going by the reviews I saw here as to whether this ship would be a good experience. I guess each persons experience can vastly be different based on what your likes and expectations are.

That being said, our likes run to the simple such as classic American cuisine and home-style foods.

We also do not expect an older ship to be perfect, just clean and the employees friendly.

Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2B

Cabin 2B

The second we entered our room the smell from the bathroom was immediately noticed.

I opened the door and was astounded at the cracked and dirty tile around the toilet and in front of the shower. It "squished" water up from around it when walked on! It never dried and the ventilation was inadequate when we took showers and had to open the balcony door to air it out every time. That is why the musty smell is always in there. Our room steward was good in that he tried to keep things fairly clean but I did wipe down the bathroom walls that first day as he was not that diligent in keeping that kind of cleaning after the last guests done.

The Jewel was spotless in the bathroom so I was spoiled I guess... Others pee on the walls is simply gross so I used my Clorox wipes and took care of it.

The shower curtains were white at the top and gradually went to yellow and some light pink mixed in for flavor.....lol! Hair was in the floor in several places but that is hard to keep clean, right? Ok, so the bathroom aside I figured the room looked pretty good so I could deal with it.

We proceeded to unpack and found the drawers in the closet to be small but our things fit nicely. We had enough hangers so no worries there. There were other drawers around the room so we had space for camera, binoculars, and toiletries in the bathroom.

We left the cabinet door open on the fridge so our pop stayed cooler after we emptied the booze and gave it to the room attendant. We brought 1 12 pack of Diet Pepsi since Coke is all that is served on board. The room has no coffee maker and the ships coffee was barely passable in our opinion. You can buy cappuccino at around $5.50 a small cup.

The balcony had 2 chairs (non-reclineable and 2 tables ( I think 1 was for inside the room but it was moved outside for more space) This particular room (9012) was in between the over hangs on either side so we had an open view and only a few rooms on the 9th floor have that. It was a pleasant surprise as I expected the overhang. I had to clean the balcony window at one point as it was so dirty but the steward never went as far as window or mirror cleaning. One wall in the room is mirrors so to give it a larger look an hand prints were on it from previous guests.

The room has a hair dryer and came with a small tote bag we could take home. It also had 2 robes for use but not to keep. They are thin so bring your own if you like a heavier robe.

The room contains a safe which was pretty easy to use. It also has 2 power outlets by the desk and that is all. None anywhere else that I could see.

The beds were put together to make 1 queen and seemed comfortable enough but we had to ask for a softer pillow as my hubby could not sleep on those big, firm one's. You could feel the ridge down the middle of the bed as the height was uneven on one of the beds. Not too noticeable though. The room steward never change our sheets in the 7 days but just made the bed. He would put different coverlets to break up the sameness. No towel animals were ever left. He did give us 2 little chocolates though....

If this room were at a hotel, it would be a 2 star rating due to the bathroom issues and dirty windows/walls. Such a let down as it all could have been fixed so easily.
