A quick summary of those who made the trip. There was myself, 43, my partner Catherine, 42, and our son George who is four. We've been on several cruises previously with lots of different lines and we book purely on what's available and at what price, we have no brand loyalty so we feel our review won't be clouded by rose tinted glasses. We booked this trip around three weeks before departure.

Check In - We had a wait of around 20-25 minutes but once we were at the desk the process was efficient and we were soon on the gangway. After the obligatory boarding photograph you enter the stunning atrium and take in the sumptuous surroundings of the ship. We were pointed to the lifts and were informed our bags would be there by now and, sure enough, they were. We decided to unpack straight away, place our valuables in the safe and that was it, we were all set.

Cabin - Due to our late booking on a Saver Fare we had no say in which cabin we'd end up in, we only knew it would be interior. We ended up on deck six, midship, close to the stairs and lifts. We only had to go up one deck and we were at the King's Court with access to the Promenade Deck and being on Deck Six meant we were on the same deck as the Kid's Club. The cabin itself was very understated but pleasing on the eye. Whilst the lower beds were extremely comfortable the same can't be said for the upper beds, the mattresses up there were awful and you had a bit of a dilemma in choosing which side of the cabin you wanted your upper bed to be on. One side was in the full blast of the heating/cooling system and the other was out of view of the TV, and speaking of the TV the choice of channels and variety of programmes was poor. If you accept bookings for kids it's not asking too much to put a channel on for children, surely. Maybe in the schedulded refit for the QM2 next year the in room entertainment might be brought up to the same standards offered on other lines. Plenty of hanging space for clothes and lots of storage and the bathroom was just OK but with a good selection of quality complimentary items.
