We sailed on the Norwegian Getaway on 8/1/15. Overall, it was a good cruise. We have previously only sailed with Carnival and were expecting to be just blown away by Norwegian...we were not. Not that Norwegian was bad, it just really wasn't any better than our experiences with Carnival. In fact, when we listed our pros/cons on our way home, we found that we actually prefer Carnival - but I'm sure not everyone would agree...it's what you are looking for from your cruise. We are a couple in our late 30s with a 10 year old daughter and cruising is our favorite vacation.

We began our vacation with a 2 night stay in Deerfield Beach at the Wyndham Resort there. Highly recommend this property for a short mini-vacay prior to embarkation! We loved it! We then drove on to Miami on Saturday to board the ship. Driving into Miami, unloading the car, and parking was not exactly the smoothest experience but doable. We had driven to Port Canaveral and New Orleans in the past and both of these ports were much more organized and helpful to travelers than Miami.

Once we got into the port, however, the line moved very quickly and we were on the ship in no time. I believe we arrived at the port to unload our luggage around 11:30 and were through security, checked in, and enjoying lunch at O'Sheehans by 12:30. Our cabins were ready around 1:00 and I think we had all of our luggage to the room by 4:30 that afternoon. We took water, Coke, and OJ and checked it with our luggage and it all made it to the room as well.

Cabin Review

Aft-Facing Balcony Stateroom

Cabin B1

As I mentioned above, the layout of the room made it seem smaller than the Carnival ships we've been on. The bathroom was nice, however, and had a plexiglass shower enclosure, instead of a curtain. Also, plenty of shelf space in bathroom.

Port Reviews

Miami

When driving into the port, very congested and chaotic. You basically just pull up where taxis, shuttles, buses, etc. are as well and dump all of your stuff on the sidewalk with a porter, then drive down to the garage and park. Then you have to hike back over to the port and possibly down a terminal, depending on your ship location. I am comparing to Port Canaveral (which was much nicer) and New Orleans - definitely the best port set up I've ever experienced.

Nassau

Never would I have thought I would have given Nassau an excellent rating but the Tiki Bikini Hut and its' owners Byron and Amanda changed that! Awesome place to go for the day. Can grab a taxi for about $4 per person one way or it's also within walking distance. Just past the Hilton/Fat Tuesdays. Beach, chairs/umbrellas, drinks, food, bathrooms/showers - all for next to nothing. Byron set us up with 3 lounge chairs, an umbrella, towels, 8 alcoholic drinks, unlimited juice/sodas, fresh coconut, and snorkel gear for $55. The beach was small but clean, the water was gorgeous, what more could you ask for????
