Spending longer than normal on this ship I got a good look and feel for this particular cruise. First, the ship is so large that it docks at industrial docks. Lots of cranes, truck noise and very ugly views. The port buses at Marseille's & Civitavecchia drop you no where near anything and there may not be cabs available. The first 2 ports are short days and not much to see. The last 3 ports are up to 2 hours from anything so be prepared. Don't come in the summer! It's hotter than hot and half the planet is at each port and everywhere you go.
The guest services people often don't know answers to questions but tell you something just to make you go away. The shore excursions are hit and miss. The olive oil making tour had nothing to do with olive oil and the guide knew nothing. The pizza making in Sorrento was great . The "activities" onboard; rock wall climbing-open 3 hrs a day, wave surfing - open 3 hours a day. Movies only late at night. Pools over crowded. Free food - over crowded. Spa-coed, no sandals (foot fungus), lost of hairy guys in speedo's. International guests, few speak English. Dinning room seating may be at table with people you can no communicate with and staff may not be pleasant.
Great City but over crowded in the summer. the airport is crazy and luggage is lost due to over capacity people and luggage.
not much going on here. just the usual small european town
Rc bus cost $23 per person round trip. Not a lot to see. Pretty but might save money and energy for other ports
Nice. free bus drops you right where you can get a $23 round trip boat to cinque terra, might take the train back from the last stop Monterossa - cost $2.70. Le Spezia is nice, clean, safe town with good food, shops and sites.
Ugly port, free bus drops you in no where's ville. Train station about a 15 min. walk. 90 min to over crowded Rome. So hot, so many people.... Do it in the spring or fall.
Watch you bag, purse, wallet. from where you Walk off the boat you can take a boat to Capri or Sorrento. Easy cheap and a cooler, less crowded of a over priced excursion.
