This was our first time on a river cruise, after 4 ocean cruises, and we could not be more thrilled with how it went. We chose Viking because of the itinerary, but everything about this trip exceeded our expectations. The ship was great, the crew was outstanding, the food was top-notch, the shore excursions were interesting and well-organized, and our fellow travelers were, for the most part, excellent company. I would not hesitate to travel with Viking again.

We were in cabin 300, French Balcony. Sure, it's not huge, but you're on a ship. The bed was comfortable, there was plenty of storage, and the climate controls worked properly. Bathroom also quite small, but it served its purpose.

We had Viking arrange our air travel, and it all came off without a hitch. They had a very efficient team at the Budapest Airport, and we were on a shuttle for the ship less than 15 minutes after gathering our luggage. We were on the ship before 10, and many folks from the previous trip were still departing. They took care of our luggage while we headed out to see the city.

Port Reviews

Bratislava

A somewhat undiscovered gem, with obvious traces of the Communist Era in the architecture and public art, although that is slowly changing. Definitely worth visiting.

Durnstein (Krems)

Tiny town of 400 residents that seems to exist for tourism and wine. Located at the eastern end of the Wachau Valley, the ruins of a castle overlook the town, and it's said that Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned there on his way home from the 3rd Crusade. A strenuous hike from the village gets you to the top of the hill & the ruins, but it's worth it for the vistas.
