First time on HAL but we've cruised before with Carnival, Princess and Cunard. We had a fabulous cruise start to finish! The Amsterdam is a beautiful ship! Loved all of the elegant touches like live orchids on every table in the Lido dining room and every bathroom. Cloth hand towels, granite countertops, even beautiful lighted vanities in the ladies rooms. Fresh flowers were everywhere. Our interior cabin was more roomy than an interior on Carnival or Princess with a small sofa and table. The beds were a bit too firm for our liking, my only complaint. Our steward offered an egg crate topper and that helped a bit. The food was wonderful! We ate in the MDR most nights and loved the menu. Wonderfully attentive service. The food in the Lido dining room was definitely a step up from other cruise lines. The poolside Dive In Grill was the bomb! The burgers and hot dogs were incredible as were the fries! Toppings like grilled onions, bacon, Gouda cheese, onion strings... Not your usual poolside fare! Freshly cooked 1/3 pound burgers made to order. Being a mid size ship meant scaled down shows and not as many venues but what there was gave ample opportunity for entertainment. Embarkation and debating were quick and easy. I really felt like we had stepped back in time a bit to more elegant cruising! We'll definitely cruise HAL again!

Holland America is our new fave!

Cabin Review

Large Interior Stateroom
Cabin J 2600
Nice to have a little sofa, lots of closet space, good lighting. Older ship so interior cabins are roomier than the newer ships.
Main Deck Inside Cabins, Outside Cabins
