  3. Azamara Journey
Our first Azamara cruise was very good, but because we have been on Seabourn and Regent cruises we knew that we were definitely not on a five star ship. Here are the major shortcomings: Food in all the buffets was not great. To get truly great dinners you have to pay extra for the specialty restaurants. Dinners in the main dining room were pretty good but we got a lot more great stuff on the other cruise lines. The most annoying aspect of the cruise is the endless marketing in every conceivable way to get you to spend more money; it never stops. Perhaps the most stupid way of wasting money is on the expensive alcohol packages; the complementary wines, liquors and beers are good enough for most people. Their excursions are expensive and mostly a waste of money. The entertainment was far better than we expected; definitely as good or better than more expensive cruise lines. Service was good, but nearly all the staff were clearly not as experienced as on the other, more expensive cruise lines. Azamara is clearly using lower cost personnel. The balcony was very small. And the main sun/pool deck was very crowded with very little room to get on lounge chairs. On the plus side, the tender service was extraordinary, far better than we have experienced on the more expensive lines. We were satisfied mainly because we got a great deal with reduced fare and significant on board credits.

Good but not five star

Cabin Review

Club Veranda Stateroom
Cabin V2 7056
Furniture was very worn; lacked an electrical outlet near bed. Ship really needs the major renovation it is supposed to have.
