We actually went out of Charleston on the Fantasy twice in 2014 because we enjoyed it so much and Charleston is so convenient for us to drive to instead of having to fly since we live in West Virginia.
The Fantasy is the oldest in the Carnival fleet (built in 1990) but it still functions wonderfully. The staff is outstanding and we have never been treated so well before.
We traveled as a family including myself, my wife, and my parents. My father, who has now past away, was disabled and in a wheelchair. The crew was very nice and extremely helpful to my parents which really meant a lot to me.
We had plenty of room, comfortable bed, great steward, and service. Nothing to complain about at all.

Embarkation was very simple and fairly quick. There are people everywhere to assist you on where to go and what to do.
Debarkation was ok. I wouldn't say it was great but it wasn't the worst thing ever. They could make the process smoother and easier but I understand that they are trying to get ready for all of the new guests also.
We will for sure go again out of Charleston. It looks like Carnival is moving the Ecstasy up to port out of Charleston for a while.
Nassau - Nothing amazing but there are still tons of fun to be had here. The port entrance is heavily congested by people selling things but that's their livelihood so it's understandable.
Half Moon Cay - This is by far our most favorite port that we've ever been to. It is a private island only used by individual cruise ships. We were the only ship there and had the whole island to ourselves. The clearest water ever. Carnival even fed us lunch on the island which was really nice. We can't wait to go back!
