This was our first HAL cruise and we had a great time. Our cabin with verandah was very nice, the bed was very good. we didn't have any post drydock issues! Our stewards were friendly and efficient. We were really impressed with the food: so many options, good quality and fast service. We ate once in the Pinnacle grill, and all other evenings in the MDR. We had late seating and a table for two.Service in th MDR was maybe a little too fast, we like to enjoy our dinner with some wine, talking,... but here in less than an hour our three courses were served. Wine was expensive: quality wasn't great. For lunch, we tried the pasta's, salads and Asian Corner in the Lido, or we took a burger with excellent fries in the Dive Inn. The entertainment was not so good, we didn't like the shows very much (except for BB Kings) and we would have liked some music on deck (one night the band played in the evening on deck, that was nice!). We spent some evenings in the piano bar, although pianist Damian always sounded as if he had to catch a bus. For me, it was rather cold in the public places on the ship. Embarkation and disembarkation were very well organized. We didn't do any HAL excursions, which were very expensive, but we did take the HAL shuttle bus to Dubrovnik. The ports were interesting (except for Messina) and it is nice that HAL has long days in port (and the evening in Dubrovnik plus overnight in Venice). It was very hot, so most afternoons we spent on our verandah (not enough sunbeds in the shade on the Lido deck). We certainly would consider sailing with Hal again.
Nice cabin on the navigation deck, very forward. Below the Spa, but no noise at all, very quiet. The only disadvantage is that you don't have light on the verandah due to navigation purposes, so no reading after dark...
We stayed in Messina, but there isn't much to see, exept for the bell tower. we were here on a Sunday, so everything was closed. Town rather dirty. It's better to take a tour to other places.
Civitavecchia has some shops and nice restaurants. We stayed here one night before embarking the ship.
Very nice, nice views, many shops, interesting museums and the Cathedral was amazing.
Our favourite port of call this cruise. Walking the walls in the evening, we also took the cable car for an amazing view, and since we stayed late in port, we returned after dinner for some drinks in one of the narrow streets.
walking up to the fortress, which was difficult because of the hot weather. nice views.
Charming little place, also good for swimming and kayaking.
Crowded, hot, many shops.
Very crowded in july, but so beautiful. Take the water bus and enjoy the palazzo's, we've also visited the palace of the dogues. Couldn't get into the Cathedral because of the long lines.
