This was the first time I sailed on the Ruby, although I am an "elite member" of the Captain's Circle. It was a beautiful ship, though larger than others I have sailed on. And while I don't necessarily like bigger, this turned out well. The trip to Alaska was one of the very best I have been on. Weather was outstanding. The crew was outstanding on the Ruby. Had breakfast each morning in Sabatini's, which on this ship is aft, and what a great view it had. Meals were great and I enjoyed getting to know new people at dinner through Any Time Dining. Embarkation was easy as was disembarkation. There is a reason I choose to sail exclusively with Princess; they always treat me, well, like a princess. I sail solo because my husband passed away 6 years ago, but I never feel left out. What a wonderful time!!!!! I have my next few cruises booked with Princess. Another trip to Alaska in 2016 but this time to Glacier Bay and then some Mexico trips.
Well, the cabin was an "upsell" but worth every penny even though I pay double. I never would have been able to afford the suite if I had booked it as my first choice. It is so nice to have a "small apartment" for the cruise. I usually reserve a balcony, sometimes a mini-suite, if the pricing is favorable. I like to enjoy a combination of the ship as the destination and land tours. Having a suite makes it even more pleasurable. My steward was great!
With the new dock closer to town and on a larger ship like the Ruby, it was a very pleasant walk to town. This was the first time I actually got to see Juneau on foot. Last time I was in Alaska, I the Golden and we were at the furthest dock from town. It was not possible for me to walk the distance as I had broken my foot and it was in the healing process. This new dock with its great sea walk was a real treat!
I walked around Skagway for the photo opportunities. It is one of the best places to capture pictures to commemorate one's trip. In the past, I have gone on the train to White Pass and it is a great excursion.
Ah, beautiful Victoria. What can I say, except it is a very pretty port. My late husband and I use to take our own boat to Victoria and so, I have visited nearly all the points of interest. The only thing I haven't done is take a horse drawn carriage ride. Maybe next year.
