My three-generation family set off on the Maasdam July 4th - a first cruise for all of us. What a wonderful time we had! The Maasdam exceeded all our expectations. We truly did not foresee how much we would enjoy cruising.

Most important to mention is the crew. The people who work on the Maasdam are a wonderful group. Everyone is smiling, everyone is helpful, everyone is happy to help. We felt like a part of a big, floating family. The ship is a wonderful size - big enough to provide a wide variety of services, small enough to make everything easy to access. Our cabins (one ocean view, one interior - both on the A deck) were spacious and lovely. We had much more room than we anticipated and lots of storage. We never felt cramped and found relaxing in the room good way to spend downtime.

Of course there was little downtime! We tried many activities while on the ship. The classes were good, the trivia was fun. We especially liked the Explorations Cafe where excellent coffee can be gotten at almost all hours and books and games are well supplied. The shows at night were not top quality but they were an enjoyable addition to the cruise. Our favorite was the Indonesian Crew show - not only did we enjoy the performances, we had a great time talking to the performers afterwords.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Cabin F

Our cabin was large and airy and quite comfortable. We had a lot of closet space and a nice, deep bathtub. We were very happy with the space and arrangement.

We had worried that our stateroom, located at the rear of the ship, would be noisy. While we had some noise and vibration when the thrusters were being used it was not terrible disturbing.

Port Reviews

Halifax

The harbor walk is very pretty and a nice way to get from the cruise terminal into the city. We enjoyed touring the Maritime Museum and the harbor area.

Quebec City

The city is easily accessible from the cruise port. We walked through many old neighborhoods, had lunch at a local restaurant, toured some lovely churches, and heard several street musicians. This is a unique and lovely city.
