There have been lots of reviews focusing on the shortcomings or less than perfect elements of a TA on the QM2 due to "tiredness" of the ship in advance of the upcoming retrofit. We had a lovely time and would take this ship on this crossing again in a heartbeat...so even though I'll honestly reflect some of the underwhelming elements or shortfalls we encountered - it's always easier to write about an issue instead of and overwhelming sense of satisfaction - our overall experience was delightful.
We were celebrating our 30th Anniversary, so we saved up and aimed for the stars, booking into Queen's Grill. Pricey? Yes. But food, flexible dining arrangements, and space were all important to us.
EMBARKATION AND GETTING TO THE ROOM
Our cabin was a lovely haven, very comfortable and spacious with an amazing amount of storage. The bed was comfortable, the lighting good for applying make-up, and the service excellent. Cabin cleanliness and amenities were all good.
Could have wished for a larger TV - we watched mostly news, the bridge cam, and lecture rebroadcasts - and it would have been lovely to have either a selection of music channels or the ability to hook up an iPod or iPad for in-cabin music.
The weather was quite windy most of the crossing so not much chance to use the balcony, but on the one perfect balcony day our cabin steward has the cushions out on the deck chairs immediately without our having to request it.
Extremely disorganized embarkation, but with three Queens departing the same day I imagine we didn't have their "A" team.
