We have just returned from our cruise on the Pride of America - Norwegian Cruise Line. Before we left, I had read all of the reviews and was worried that we would be totally disappointed. That was not the case at all. My sister-in-law and her husband travelled with us, also. They had cruised before and we (my husband and I) had not. Both couples were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversaries. We were recognized by the staff with cake at dinner. Embarkation was easy and smooth. We boarded about noon and went up to the Aloha Deck. There we ate lunch and participated in the precruise games around the pool. We met other passengers during this time while we waited for our rooms to be ready. We were able to go to our rooms about 3:00. Our luggage was delivered within minutes of getting into our rooms. My sister-in-law said that the rooms were smaller than the other cruise line, but overall these were much nicer in furnishings. If we were disappointed about anything, it would be that we could not open our balcony to each other. But we just visited each others room to sit on the balcony. The crew and staff were helpful, friendly, and courteous. We were never made to feel uncomfortable. From the first moment, we were greeted with smiles, leis, and short lines. The food was delicious. We ate breakfast one time in the Skyline Restaurant. Usually we ate in the Aloha Cafe for breakfast. The Aloha Cafe was a buffet with lots of choices. For lunch, we took bread, coldcuts, cheese, and fruit at breakfast and put them in ziploc bags for our lunch all but one day. At night we ate in the Skyline and Liberty restaurants alternately. We dressed for dinner each night. One night, we did pay the upcharge and ate in a specialty restaurant. There were enough choices on the menu that we did not feel we were eating the same food every evening. We rented cars on Maui and in Hilo. We had reserved them before we left. Getting them was not a problem. On Maui there is a parking lot about one block from the pier where we parked. It is marked for the cruise ship. Renting cars saved us lots of money. We had a car reserved for Kona, but we cancelled the reservation. We spent our time there on the beach and walking around town. On Maui, we did the Road to Hana, and the Maui Pineapple Plantation. We were able to bring the pineapple on the ship no problem. In Hilo, we went to Volcanoes National Park. On Kauai, we took an Alex tour that was excellent! We did the luau with the cruise ship. It was great! Just signup early and get an early time. These are actually the seating and transportation groups since there is only one large luau. We had great seats. We also did the Sun Fun Beach Snorkle with POA. This was quite enjoyable and we were provided with all the gear at no additional cost. We did not participate in many of the on board entertainment offered. We did go to a lei making class and loved it. We went to a Frankie Valli show one night. It was good. Mostly we visited and sat on the balcony. When you leave the ship for the port, ask questions! Some of the ports are not as clearly labeled for where you need to meet or stand as others - especially for the rental cars. We flew in to Honolulu a day early and flew out a day after we disembarked. We did Pearl Harbor on our own. We had secured our tickets prior to the cruise through recreation.gov. We chose to stay near the airport (Airport Honolulu Hotel) They were friendly and the rooms were clean. They are near the car rental agencies and airport. We rented a car after the cruise in Honolulu. This was the best way to get around. City bus takes too long. It took over an hour to go to the beach. With the rental car, we drove up the windward coast and north shore. Overall, this was great. We were on a floating hotel for a week. This was wonderful. Would love to do it again!

Well worth the money!
