No, this is not a floating land-based hotel; it's a real ship, and we love her.

Voyages of Discovery (VOD) is not for everyone, so best not blindly choose this ship if you are looking for conventional large ship cruising and expect a floating hotel with distractions and land-based luxuries. We are active seniors have had two prior cruises with the old Discovery and this was our first with their new ship Voyager, so now about 100 days total with Voyages of Discovery. We will keep coming back.

CABINS: Rooms are small and basic on the lower decks, but kept up very well and no issues with what they offer. Ship noises and movement are part of the experience of being at sea in a small explorer ship like Voyager, though it can be an unpleasant assault due to the chronic nature in the pool area and some cabin locations. (Lower decks -mid ship - ours was challenging in cabin #4126 but Hotel Manager offered a room change had we raised our concerns earlier - we coped and did adjust better, than our first few nights when the sea passage was also rough.)

Cabin while small, did absorb our own 50 pounds each of luggage and supplies. Three deep drawers, 6 shallow drawers for odds and ends, a night stand and the closet had 6 or so shelves as well as hanging space for easily 15-20 hangers. 4 shelves above the bathroom sink, full width counter top as well as a full length under the sink shelf. Hair dryer probably a 1500 watt ion dryer and very adequate for shorter hair. Small shower, yup but endless good flow hot water.
