Avoid this cabin unless you don't mind hearing a lot of noise. The cabin itself is terrific, especially because the balcony is in the stretch-out area of the ship and is slightly larger than most balconies. But the trade-off is that you'll hear all the music from the lobby, as well as the commotion at the elevators from this stateroom. Other than that, it's great.

Bus tour of the island including Oia. I was a little disappointed because I expected to see the iconic views I've seen in ads for Greece, showing beautiful white houses extending from hilltop down to the sea. But Oia is up high. But it's definitely picturesque.

Istanbul was fabulous. The excursion covered all the usual tourist attractions, but that's what we came to see. If we had more than two days, we could have gone to the out-of-the-way spots. But that's not possible on a cruise. The excursion covered the Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Spice Market, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palace, the Underground Cistern, and a cruise on the Bosphorus, all in one-and-a-half days. Plus a sales pitch at a Turkish rug store. (We bought one, the prices were unbelievably low.) But we didn't feel rushed. It was well worth it.

It's a bit of a drive, but Ephesus is definitely worth seeing. The Roman ruins are well-preserved (is that an oxymoron?) and the guide gave a good tour. We also stopped for lunch at a restaurant that featured actors portraying Cleopatra pardoning a pair of gladiators. The buffet was bountiful.

This was one of the ports we visited twice. The first time we booked a tour that gave us an overview of the island, including a stop an Ano Mera Monastery and appetizers at a nearby restaurant. The second time we were there, we just took Celebrity's shuttle bus into town and walked around, saw the windmills, and had a nice lunch.

We did a hop-on/hop-off bus tour around Naples that gave us a good overview. The one thing we were disappointed in was the pizza. Naples is supposedly where pizza was invented. Unfortunately we were there on a Sunday, and all the good pizza restaurants listed in the guidebooks were closed. But we were told to try Castel Nuovo, a pizzeria near the dock that is frequented by the cruise line staffers. It was open, but the pizza crust was no better than Dominos. This was also a port we visited twice. The first time we booked an excursion to Pompeii, Capri and Sorrento. Pompeii a "must visit" excursion. Capri was delightful and scenic, but there wasn't much to see in Sorrento, at least not on our particular tour.

We were sorely disappointed at the Acropolis, which ranked high on our bucket list. But there is a lot of restoration work underway, which is good for the future, but now I'll have to spend time Photoshopping cranes and workmen out of photos of the Parthenon. Our tour also took us to Cape Sounion, which was a fairly long bus ride, but the interesting remains of a Roman temple.

The ship docked in Messina. We had been there once before and weren't impressed. But taking a tour to Taormina was well worth it. Essentially it was a bus ride to the town and then we were on our own. We bought souvenirs and then found a little restaurant down an alley and had a wonderful meal.

But worse was that we also were exposed to the central atrium, and that meant that we heard the sounds from whatever band was playing down in the Lobby on Deck 3.It's up on Deck 15, and unfortunately gets very windy.
