We have sailed with Holland America and Carnival - no comparison with the Celebrity Equinox. I can't say enough about the quality of the food (choose the BLU dining room!) and the EXCEPTIONAL staff. On other ships I have often felt the staff were "forced" to be nice. On the Equinox the staff genuinely seemed happy. The dining room staff in the Blu dining room were the best I've experienced. The travel (arranged by Celebrity) was also exceptional- as well the hotel they had us stay in Athens for our extra day (Grande Bretagne- we had a short walk to the Acropolis and at our roof top breakfast we had a perfect view of the Acropolis).
All in all this was a vacation to remember- we will definitely choose Celebrity for our next cruise!
Lots of storage space. "Spa" shower with overhead and side jets. Fresh fruit and champagne waiting on our arrival. Very nice balcony with comfortable chairs. From our side of the ship you could always see the island/port as we entered.
No need for an excursion- you could walk the town easily from the ship. No tender- docked.
You could easily walk the entire town/to the windmills and shopping areas. Bring a bathing suit- you can swim anywhere (and people do!). Stop in a cafe for a drink and free wifi!
The town sits on top of a STEEP hill- you can take a tour bus (we did not), a cable car ($5 euro) or a donkey ($5 euro). We chose to walk the steps up and down for exercise. Had to share the path with donkeys (who left their mess ...) so wear the right shoes. This town was OVER crowded but lovely.
We took a taxi to the Hagia Sofia (Blue Mosque and Cistern right there) but walked back. Walked though the old city as well. Great buys to be had ... We walked back to the ship. Felt very safe.
