Stayed in seattle 2 days in advance at maxwell pineapple hotel. Very coveniently located...just took a town car taxi from the carpark at seatac...there was an official attendant there as soon as you walk in from the main airport concourse. Agreed price in advance. And the hotel was very close to the ports for the day of embarkation, with a 12:00 checkout being good timing to leave for checkin at the port In the afternoon. Dont pay too much attention to the deck checkin times....there is so much congestion staff havemt got time to check ! We were an hour early. Entertainment on the ship was great...magician, hypnotist, comedian and dance acts...and great factual speakers. Theatre was one of the best we've seen. Food was so so. The Oceanview Cafe buffet area wasn't as good as we've experienced on other ships. And the sit down meals in the main restaurant were reasonable...service could be a bit slow sometimes. Cafe al bacio had very nice cakes and the best coffees. The english breakfast tea in the Oceanview was really weak...wife stuck to coffee....nice tropical juices though..bit of a tang ! Casino was good....very helpful croupier who explained how to play a table...good service in that she made us feel were being entertained rather than just there to lose our money !! Enjoyable. Nice variety of lounges to sit in. But level of attentive service was low to be served drinks. On other ships the staff have been constantly checking whether you need drinks...and the range and quality of drinks wasn't as good....namely our liking for mocktails and speciality coffees. For the excursions we used Liquid Alaska Tours (Alaska Shore Excursions)....was unsure at first....but they seemed to offer guarantees regarding not missing the ship and had no bad reviews. All trips in Ketchikan, skagway and juneau were fine.....I booked them several months in advance. Unfortunately the skagway dog sledding trip couldnt take place because of the fog giving poor visibility ....however Temsco helicopters offered to change it to a glacier trip...and after a quick call Liquid Alaska Tours agreed to refund the price difference. So would recommend to use them ...and was good price value compared to the ship excursions. Very efficient on embarkation and disembarkation which was manic in seattle. Definitely recommend using the ships transfer packge to seatac airport at the end. Almost same cost as a taxi, bug the taxi ranks were seriously congested at the end. Plus the cruiseships have a special checkout for delta airines in the carpark. Solstice even had a final day tour of seattle to the main attractions of chihuly and the space needle after auto checking in your bags...which meant the last day wouldnt be wasted. If I'd known at the beginning would have taken this option to fill the lat day, rather than visit those attractions during our pre-cruise stay of 2 days.

Cabin Review

Ocean View
Cabin 08
Cabin was really nice...deck 3 state room ocean view....perfectly fine for us .....better than the usual round portholes...nice bigger squarer windows...plus were hardly in there....but very nice comfortable and spacious rooms.

And we found deck 3 convenient for access to the guest relations and central stair case, theatres and restaurant access as they were on a floor or two above us and so easy to get to via stairs rather than waiting for lifts. But would say the lifts were very frequent and quick.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Mendenhall Glacier
Mildenhall glacier I mistakenly thought it would be a trip onto the glacier....is more a visit to the edge of the glacier...but near a spectacular waterfall...which was worth the brisk 2 mile round walk....was a combo tour with the whale watching

  • Whale Watching
Got really lucky here on the whale watching....a baby and mother ..and did a breach out of water and the baby whale playing on the surface, just as we were about to finish the trip seeing only spouts and the whales backs

  • Adventure Kart Expedition
Driving I enjoyed through the rough and very very dusty terrain.....but didnt get to see any wildlife, which was a shame. Probably scared off by the sound of the karts ! Were picked up and dropped off in a smooth manner...still plenty of time at end to walk around ketchikan and visit the totem pole museum

  • Chihuly gardens
was amazing......beautiful structures in combo with natural gardens...a definite must if you're in seattle.

  • Space Needle
..Space needle is ok..a tourist must do if your in seattle...but just a high rise view of the city.

  • Rainbow Glacier Adventure
we couldnt do the dog sledding originally booked, as on the day the clouds prevented helis getting to 4500 ft...and the rest of the day was booked out.....so was offered switch to glacier visit at 1500ft......was disappoitned, but was good learning visit.....very informative guides, and nice heli sight seeing...interesting sights and facts on glacier. Liquid Alaska Tours were very good and refunded quickly the price difference.

  • Victoria
Pleasant city which we just walked around...you can easily catch a taxi from the port to the centre of victoria.....quicker and easier than ship transfer...and actually better than taking the downtown shuttle recommended by ship...exactly the same price. We were 'toured' out by then, and just walked around exploring ourselves.
