Our Trip on the Holland American Line Veendam was a Disaster
We asked to book us in a quiet room on the Veendam . We also were concerned about how non-smoking the ship was. We were told that the room they suggested, 012, was quiet. The one week trip from Boston to Bermuda was over $6000. We had not had a vacation in years, so we thought we would invest in this one. The room we got was lovely, but there were severe problems with it.
Upon arriving, we immediately found out there was an extremely noisy fan in the bathroom, and an air conditioning system (another noisy fan) that could not be shut off. We had told the folks who attended the room, and also the folks at the Neptune Lounge on our deck. They said they couldn’t do anything about it. Our friends who were in 319 had very little noise in their cabin, which was about a tenth of what we were paying for ours. My wife has sensitive ears and trouble sleeping with noise.
The room itself was nice, but the noise from the fans in the bathroom and air conditioner kept us up all night. Every now and then, the smell of fuel would come into the room. The staff said they couldn't do anything about it.
