First time we have sailed on HAL. We did the Denali land tour prior to cruising- it was a great experience. Stunning and beautiful scenery with lots of wildlife viewing. Embarkation was fast-less than 10 minutes. Our cabin as a verandah suite located on deck 7. The room was spacious with lots of storage. The bathroom was a little dated but everything was spotless. The cabin stewards did an excellent job in taking care of us and were always polite and professional. We prefer to dine in our room for breakfast- room service was very punctual and the order was always correct and the food was hot.
As far as entertainment we only went to one show- it was lively and well done. The onboard movies were fun and we enjoyed the popcorn. Dining at the Pinnacle Grill was delicious. The main dining meals were good as well- food arrived in a timely manner and was hot. The menu throughout the ship seemed a little limited but I believe it is geared slightly towards an older crowd who tend to prefer (stereotypically) simpler meals. All staff on board that we interacted with were polite and professional-no complaints.
All of the ports were fun. We only booked one excursion thru HAL- the White Pass Rail ride in Skagway and it was fabulous. The whale watching in Juneau we arranged in port at one of the kiosks. Glacier Bay was amazing and the captain/crew did an incredible job of getting us close to view the calving glaciers. We stayed in the Pan Pacific in Vancouver which makes it extremely easy to disembark. The Pan Pacific is a wonderful hotel- walking distance to lots of shops, eating and neighborhoods. We walked to Stanley Park - about 4 miles but it is a lovely walk along the water. We had a terrific trip
The cabin itself was great. Lots of room and storage and we spent a lot of time on the balcony. The only negative was the noise produced on the Lido deck above us-just outside the sliding doors connecting the Lido eating area with the aft deck. You could hear chairs and tables being moved about. We only heard this while on the balcony- not in the cabin. It usually stopped around 10 pm.
We did not see much of Seward. Our bus dropped us off and we got on board the ship within 10 minutes.
